Serving Mexico City and the surrounding area, travel and transport facilities at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) include bus, car rental, limousine, shared-ride van, taxi, train and Metro services.
Travel by Metro
The Metro station at Mexico City Airport, located within easy walking distance of the baggage claim area, is a cheap and efficient service (preferably when traveling lightly) but crowded at rush hour. To reach the airport station, marked with an M sign, turn left out of the terminal and walk past the car park; the airport metro station is on line 5. For central Mexico City, change at Pantitlan (one stop) for line 1 and travel to Insurgentes. Trains are an inexpensive and useful way to travel into the city and run approximately every ten minutes and the service stops at around 01:00.
Travel by Hotel Shuttle
Many Mexico City hotels also offer a door-to-door courtesy shuttle bus services for their guests, traveling from Mexico City airport, directly to the hotel from outside of the airport's passenger buildings.
Travel by Bus
Major hotels run shuttle minibuses from the airport. There is also a regular airport bus to various destinations, which departs from in front of the domestic terminal. Some routes operate until midnight.
Mexico City International Airport (MEX) is served by many regular public buses that travel from the airport's terminal buildings to central Mexico City and other nearby towns such as Cuernavaca, Puebla, Pachuca, Querétaro, León and Irapuato. Buses at Mexico City Airport run daily at regular intervals and are an inexpensive and useful way to travel into the city. Buses depart from in front of the aiport's domestic terminal and some routes operate until midnight.
Travel by Taxi Cabs
Taxis are readily available at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and provide a convenient and easy way to travel into nearby Mexico City city and other destinations. The journey from Mexico City Airport into downtown Mexico City will take around 35 minutes, depending on traffic. Official Mexico City MEX airport taxi cabs, with official logos, should be used at all times to ensure safety and also to avoid being overcharged.
The airport taxi meters in Mexico City start at a basic fare, but additional charges are usually made for luggage, late-night driving and travel on public holidays in Mexico City, so it can prove useful to ask the taxi driver about these before leaving. Some Mexico City Airport taxis are happy to accept credit cards.
Passengers can obtain prepaid taxi tickets from Taxi Autorizado taxi counters in the Transportacion Terrestre (Ground Transportation) booth in baggage reclaim area (tel: +52 5 571 9344).
Travel by Limousines
There are a wide selection of private car limousine companies and chauffeured cars available at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and these provide the perfect way to travel in style to your Mexico City hotel or nearby cities, including Cuernavaca, Paluca and Toluca. Limousine services operate to and from Mexico City MEX Airport and can be leased at an hourly rate if required, although minimum charges may apply. The limousines can be booked in advance or from the airport's Ground Transportation Information counters.
